If you have never had a landscape company out for a design consultation, it can be hard to know what to expect, or whether it is worth the hour. Here is what actually happens during ours, and what we are looking for while we are there.
We walk the property before we talk about anything
Before any conversation about what you want, we walk the whole property to understand what is already there: existing grading, sun exposure through different areas, mature trees worth working around, and any obvious drainage or soil issues. A plan that ignores these ends up fighting the property instead of working with it.
We ask how you actually use the space
A backyard that gets used for entertaining needs a different plan than one that is mostly looked at from inside the house. We ask about how you live on the property now and how you would like to use it, because that shapes the design more than almost anything else.
We talk through priorities and phasing
Not every project needs to happen at once. Sometimes it makes more sense to handle drainage and grading first, then plantings the following season, then hardscape after that. We are upfront about what should happen in what order and why, rather than pushing for the biggest project possible.
You get a real plan, not just a price
The consultation ends with an actual plan for the property, not just a number. If you want a quote for a specific piece of it, we provide that too, but the goal of the visit is to give you a clear picture of what is possible and what it would take to get there.
There is no obligation attached to the consultation itself. If it is useful and you want to move forward, we go from there. If you just want a second opinion on a plan you already have in mind, that is a fine reason to book one too.
